“Love God. Love Others.
Serve the World. … Change Lives.”
Jesus himself said that the two greatest commandments are “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength”; and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:29-31) He modeled for us how to put that love into action by serving one another humbly (John 13). He continues to call us to do the same in our context.
“We will expand the reach of Christ’s love
by serving and accepting others where they are.”
As we live out of mission of loving God and others, we realize our tendency to limit the breadth, width, depth, and height of Christ’s love (Ephesians 3:18-19). In his own earthly life and ministry, Jesus Christ humbled himself to serve others> He met and accepted people where they were geographically, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We strive to continue reaching out to others and loving them as Christ did and does.
Four Strategic Directions toward the Vision
In November and December 2021, a team of laity, staff, and pastors at St. Andrew’s prayerfully reflected on scripture, context, opportunity, and call to describe the vision above, as well as strategic directions that are means toward living into this vision. Teams are being formed to study, reflect, develop, and implement plans in each of these strategic directions. The four strategic directions are:
- Discipleship through technology to serve our community
- Offering hospitality through our facilities to engage our community
- Initiate and cultivate new relationships through responsive ministries
- Inclusive engagement through effective communication
